Island Hopping in the Ionian Sea

Giorgio Armani's house
On Wednesday I went on one of the trips I have been looking forward to the most: Island Hopping in the Ionian Sea. We started out in Nidri on Lefkada Island on the Nidri Star I around 10 in the morning. We took the boat past Giorgio Armani’s house in the south of Lefkada and right round to the very edge of Lefkada, to one of the most famous beaches in Greece, Porto Katisiki. It has been named the most beautiful beach in Greece and is in the top of the list of best beaches in Europe.

It can only be accessed either by boat as we did or by doing down 100 steps. In all honesty, the ocean was lovely turquoise but the sand was what I would describe as ok, maybe it was partly due to the share amount of people that were all crowding on the beach. Never the less, it was a really nice swim with an opportunity to jump from the boat.

The next stop was in Kefalonia and the beautiful old fishing village of Fiskado. I have to say that it is probably one of the most picturesque villages I have ever been to, it had this amazing cosy feel to it and I left wanting to discover more of Kefalonia.

But my absolute favourite beach I have ever been to was our next stop: the isolated beach of Ithaca which can only be accessed by boat and did not actually even exist three years ago. This beach has been created by the sand from Porto Katisiki and it so untouched and incredibly beautiful, the water is even slightly warmer here than it was at Porto Katiski.

We then headed over to one of the caves where a submarine was hiding during the Second World War but to be completely honesty, at this stage I was getting tired and ready to head back to main land. We finally stopped of the cost of the famous Skorpios for a final swim. Skorpios is famous as it is owned by the Onassasis family and currently rented out to a Russian billionaire that gave the island to his daughter on her 25th birthday, as you do!

It really was an amazing day on the sea however, spending 9 hours on a crowded boat with some semi rude people does make you wish for land. Nevertheless, the crystal clear turquoise waters and white sandy beaches is something that I will always be grateful to for having had a chance to experience.
