Lambintines
On June 30th the Greeks celebrated Lambintines, this is a
bonfire festival where they put olive tree branches as well as dried flower
wreath in little bonfires all over town. Here in Parga there were big
festivities and jumping over the fires is meant to bring you good luck and a
long life. You can never have too much luck so of course I joined in on the fun
(which to be fair, mainly the kids were in on) and jumped over the fires –
without burning myself I might add! It was such great night not just because of
the festival but because my brother and some friends were over to visit and we
enjoyed some good food and drinks and danced until the early mornings.
The only negative thing with this festival – your clothes
and hair will be covered in the smell of smoke and laundry is a must the next
day!
