A night in a Korean spa

It started out as a normal Saturday night. I was about to meet up with a friend, that i first met in Vietnam, and his husband for dinner. We walked around the area where I was staying, of course the cool and hip area of town... We found a lovely Korean BBQ place that we settle for together with some rice wine. That was followed by some drinks in a quirky place that smelled like weed and after a few cocktails the inevitable thing occured: karaoke!

Just for one hour we said, several bottles of rice wine later we left as our voices were cracking 4 hours later.

Having some traditional Korean street food where we also made some new friends, of course! We decided that the only way we could and should end this night would be by going to a Korean spa.

Right, we paid 15000 won (105 SEK/E10) for 12 hours in this spa. They had seperate changing rooms for men and women which then led to seperate pool areas. So there I was tipsy and not understanding a single one of the signs - all in Korean. So I jump in to a pool which has sort of a lounge chair layout at the bottom with little jacuzzi beams. Nice, a massage I think and press he big red button next to the pool - don't push the red button! Sure, by all means were there water beams but they came with such a force and pressure that the ones situated on your back beamed straight up to the ceiling where they bounced off and finally crossed the room and made a big splash on the floor and it was painful! Anyhow, we were given identical shorts and tshirts which we then put on and went to the common "sauna" area. It was basically just a huge room with mattresses and pillows on the floor for everyone to sleep on, with a few smaller areas wih slightly different temperatures. Yes, it was strange. But oh we slept util about 9am, when we all agreed it felt a bit like we had joined a cult. It was without a doubt one of the strangest experiences in my life but oh how fun! So when in Korea: join the karaoke and spa fun!
