The mystery of Nasca

As most days on this trip we start bright and early and today was no different. After waiting for the clouds to clear it was time for us to set off to the airport of Nasca. Six of us jumped in a plane with two pilots and guides and got ready for take off over Nasca Valley.

To say it was a pleasant flight would be to lie as most of us got sick from the twisting and turning but it was definitely beautiful and despite the questionable state it was good fun.

For 25 minutes we flew over the Nasca lines, which is one of the great mysteries of South America. Several figures and geometric shapes have been drawn across an area over 500 square kilometers, each indiviual and raging in length from 35m up to 200m. The lines are created in a single continuous line and their purpose is still unknown. There are several theories ranging from landing strips for alien spaceships to ancient agricultural calendars or power spots.

No matter the origin they are still impressive and in the end it's up to each one to choose what they believe the purpose of the Nasca lines was - if in fact they have purpose at all or just another tourist attraction.
